Under the new regulation, which is expected to affect approximately 8 million children in Turkey, individuals under the age of 15 are prohibited from opening social media accounts, and age verification via e-Devlet is becoming mandatory.

The rise in social media usage among children aged 6-15 in Turkey to 66 percent has brought digital security measures to the agenda. The regulation, which is planned to come into effect as of November 1, aims to protect children in the online environment.

With the new system, while individuals under 15 are restricted from creating accounts on social media platforms, the use of the e-Devlet infrastructure for age verification is envisioned. The Presidency of Cyber Security has warned citizens to be cautious against fraud attempts that may try to exploit this transition process.
