Social media phenomenon Özlem Öz's Instagram account, which has approximately 4.3 million followers, has been blocked from access in Turkey by a court order due to her posts regarding her family life and her son's circumcision.
Özlem Öz, a mother of five who shares her family life and time with her children on social media along with her husband Tayyar Öz, recently became the target of criticism due to content regarding her son's circumcision. Öz's posting of a conversation she had with a doctor prior to the circumcision also sparked discussions on social media.
Some users on the platform X argued that children's privacy was being violated for commercial purposes and engagement, calling on the Ministry of Family and Social Services. Following the backlash, the ministry applied for the removal of the content and access blocking under Law No. 5651, and the relevant court accepted this request. The ministry statement emphasized that the right of custody does not grant parents unlimited authority over children's private lives. Özlem Öz and Tayyar Öz have not yet made a statement regarding the matter.
