AI Cleanup on Spotify: 50 Million Songs Removed from Recommendations
Spotify has removed over 50 million tracks generated by artificial intelligence and classified as spam from its recommendation system, while completely removing 75 million tracks.
As part of efforts to protect artists and listeners on the platform from deceptive content, Spotify removed over 50 million tracks generated by artificial intelligence and classified as low-quality content and spam from its recommendation system this year. More than 75 million spam tracks that violated platform rules were completely deleted.
In a written statement by Spotify, it was reported that tracks skipped by listeners or indicated as unwanted were examined, and a significant portion of these were identified as low-quality AI content or spam. With updates made in the last six months, it was reported that these contents have been reduced and more room has been made for the music of real artists.
Listener interactions, uploading habits, metadata, and third-party AI detection tools are evaluated together in the detection of low-quality AI content and spam. Additionally, various tools such as AI Credits and AI Persona tags, where artists can indicate their AI usage roles, have been put into service. The requirement of at least 1,000 streams for royalty revenue also plays a role in protection against the wave of content.
