A new scientific study conducted within the MIT Media Lab examined the effects of visuals manipulated by artificial intelligence technology on human memory and reached striking conclusions.

Scope of the Experiment and Photos

In the initial phase of the study, a total of 24 ordinary photographs featuring everyday subjects such as weddings, city streets, and races were prepared and presented to participants.

Participant Groups and Process

The experiment, led by Professor Pattie Maes and the MIT Media Lab team, included 200 participants who were shown different sets of visuals after a break.

Artificial Intelligence Interventions

While some of the participants were presented with unaltered versions of the same photos, another group was shown versions modified by artificial intelligence.

Modified Visual Elements

It was observed that in the photos edited with artificial intelligence, people's facial expressions were altered, military personnel were added to the frames, or signs of climate change were embedded.
