Amazon tells engineers to stop ‘tokenmaxxing’ to look productive — says AI will be central to software development, but usage is not the goal, new guidelines claim

Amazon has announced an updated engineering guide asking engineers to put an end to their efforts to increase token counts (tokenmaxxing) in order to appear productive.

In its published updated engineering guide, Amazon explained to developers and managers how they should measure the true impact of artificial intelligence. The company emphasized that heavy use of artificial intelligence does not automatically mean producing better work or value.

The company stated that it is not moving away from artificial intelligence and is confident that, whatever the best practices of the future may be, artificial intelligence will remain central to software engineering.
