Artificial intelligence company Anthropic has announced the establishment of a wholly owned public benefit fund to support social good projects and that it will transfer 5% of its shares to this fund.

In a statement made by Anthropic, it was stated that the established fund will provide the company with flexibility and scale in supporting social benefit projects. According to the plan, the fund also includes an option to provide an additional 2% contribution for every 50% increase in the company's value. It is stated that the accumulated fund can be used in areas such as major donations to traditional non-governmental organizations or direct distributions to specific population groups.

The company had previously committed $200 million to examine the potential impacts of artificial intelligence on the labor market. However, considering the pace of progress in artificial intelligence, it was noted that bolder approaches might be needed and that the fund would have the flexibility to pursue such steps. This move coincides with a crisis of public trust facing the AI industry; CEO Dario Amodei had described this situation as a fundamental crisis of trust. Details regarding the structure and governance of the fund are expected to be shared in the coming months.
