Approval of the Maritime Jurisdiction Agreement with Turkey by the Libyan House of Representatives
The House of Representatives in eastern Libya approved the 2019 Turkey-Libya Memorandum of Understanding on Maritime Jurisdictions and lifted decisions boycotting relations.
With a decision made on October 20, 2026, the House of Representatives in eastern Libya approved the Memorandum of Understanding on the Delimitation of Maritime Jurisdictions in the Mediterranean signed with Turkey in 2019, and repealed the 2020 decisions regarding the boycott of relations with Turkey.
Libyan House of Representatives Spokesperson Abdullah Bliheg reported that the votes on the approval of the memorandum and the revocation of previous decisions resulted unanimously. This decision marks a significant change in the relations of the political institutions in eastern Libya with Ankara.
Signed in Istanbul on November 27, 2019, the memorandum had previously been rejected by the House of Representatives in the east due to the political division in Libya.
