Artificial Intelligence Bachelor's Degree Program from the University of Rhode Island
The University of Rhode Island is launching a new undergraduate degree program focused on ethical artificial intelligence applications and interdisciplinary problem-solving.
The University of Rhode Island (URI) has announced the establishment of a new Interdisciplinary and Applied Artificial Intelligence bachelor's degree program that will provide education in the ethical use of artificial intelligence.
Offered in collaboration with the URI College of Business and the College of Arts and Sciences, the program aims to educate students on the ethical use of artificial intelligence in solving real-world problems. Led by Indrani Mandal from the Department of Computer Science and Statistics and Devendra (Dave) Kale from the College of Business, the degree program requires 53 to 70 credits to complete.
The curriculum focuses on safety, security, and privacy issues while preparing students for roles such as artificial intelligence ethics officers, human-artificial intelligence interaction designers, and technology regulation specialists. Students are required to complete an internship as an artificial intelligence professional, and the program will make a limited debut in spring 2027 before being fully integrated in fall 2027. Additionally, existing courses such as 'Artificial Intelligence for Everyone' (CSC/DSP 161) will count toward the degree.
