Artificial Intelligence is Reducing Human Intervention in Military Decisions
UNIDIR Director Robin Geiss stated that artificial intelligence is replacing human decision-making mechanisms in military fields and increasing the risk of error.
United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) Director Robin Geiss stated at a briefing held at UN Headquarters in New York that artificial intelligence is rapidly excluding the human decision-making process from military operations.
Robin Geiss emphasized that many military responsibilities, from intelligence analysis to target determination, drone operations, and cyber attacks, are being handed over to artificial intelligence. Stating that this situation leads to the weakening of human judgment even in the nuclear field, Geiss expressed that it increases the speed of battlefield operations and raises the risks of error and escalation due to the systems not being transparent.
