Microsoft founder and former CEO Bill Gates stated in an interview with The Verge that the transformation brought by artificial intelligence technology will witness a tumultuous period lasting approximately 20 years. Emphasizing that this transition period could be one of the most painful processes in human history, Gates called for strong state controls and security measures.

Microsoft founder and Gates Foundation co-chair Bill Gates further hardened his views on artificial intelligence safety following his article published at the end of August titled "The tumultuous AI era has begun. The decisions we make now are critical." Gates stated that even under the best conditions, the transition to this new era will be one of the most tumultuous periods in human history. Characterizing artificial intelligence in his interviews as the most dangerous thing humans have approached so far, Gates voiced that this technology harbors risks on a scale that dwarfs nuclear weapons.

Finding current White House policy and the coordination efforts of the artificial intelligence industry insufficient, Gates argued that preparations must be made for approximately 20 years of artificial intelligence turmoil. Stating that this process could divide society into two parts—those living near the technological frontier and those opposing it—Gates evaluated labor force dynamics, the nihilistic approach of younger generations toward technological progress, and elements offering hope for the future.
