Speaking at MIPCOM, BBC Director of Unscripted Kate Phillips stated that while AI is becoming a part of television production, it will never be used on screen in major projects like Blue Planet III and the audience will not be lied to.

AI and Screen Policy

BBC Director of Unscripted Kate Phillips stated that artificial intelligence currently plays a role in television production as a research and editing tool. However, Phillips emphasized that AI will never be used for on-screen elements in major shows like Blue Planet III.

Speaking at the MIPCOM event in Cannes, Phillips expressed that such practices would mean lying to the audience and that they would never do such a thing.

Rejection of Algorithmic Production Decisions

Phillips stated emotionally that the BBC will continue to commission programs as it always has, rather than making algorithm-driven production decisions.

Stating that commissioning content based on algorithms would kill the creative process, Phillips noted that even if distribution mechanisms change, creative goals remain the same.
