How Beacon Health System Closed an 8,000-Patient Care Gap in Under Eight Weeks

Beacon Health System, an 11-hospital system serving northern Indiana and southwestern Michigan, had fallen behind on its colorectal cancer screening goals by late 2025, with approximately 8,000 patients enrolled with primary care providers overdue for screenings. To alleviate this administrative burden, the health system partnered with Magical to deploy an AI agent that handles administrative tasks across electronic health records, scheduling systems, and patient portals.

While physicians identified eligible patients and approved the list with outpatient instructions, the AI agent managed repetitive steps such as verifying each patient, selecting the correct order and diagnosis, and registering them with the appropriate provider and location. Through this initiative, screening orders were placed for nearly 8,000 patients within weeks. As thousands of test kits were returned, hundreds of patients received positive results and were referred for colonoscopies, leading to the early detection of three cancer cases at a treatable stage. Following this success, Beacon began turning automated screening outreach into an ongoing process.
