Bo Bichette to Exercise $42 Million Player Option with New York Mets
Star player Bo Bichette has decided to exercise his $42 million player option with the New York Mets for the 2027 season. Having fallen short of expectations last season, the Mets aim to maintain their roster with Bichette's return.
New York Mets star infielder Bo Bichette has announced his intention to exercise his $42 million player option to remain with the team for the 2027 season.
According to a report by The Athletic, 28-year-old star player Bo Bichette has decided to exercise the option in his contract with the New York Mets. Having joined the Mets after leaving the Toronto Blue Jays last season, Bichette will wear the team's uniform again in the 2027 season through this option, which is part of his three-year, $126 million contract.
The Mets set out with the goal of winning a World Series in the 2026 season but created a major disappointment by finishing last in the NL East division with a 74-88 record. Although Bichette had a slow start to his first season in New York, he finished the year with .260/.312/.390 statistics, 18 home runs, and 78 RBIs.
Bichette's decision was influenced by the threat of a potential lockout and the uncertainty created by his performance drop last season. The player will have another option right after the 2027 season and could seek a longer-term contract if he improves his performance.
