Capital One's Artificial Intelligence Strategies and Transformation in Banking
Ranking second among global banks according to the 2025 Evident AI Index, Capital One implements artificial intelligence solutions in areas such as customer service and fraud reduction.
Positioned as the eighth-largest bank in the US by assets, Capital One ranks among the forefront of global banks by integrating data, analytics, and artificial intelligence technologies across all corporate processes. Bank executives state that artificial intelligence applications achieve productivity increases and risk reduction.
Capital One draws attention with its history built on knowledge-based marketing and analytical risk management strategies. According to 2025 Evident AI Index data, the bank ranks second among global banks in artificial intelligence capabilities, closely following only JPMorgan Chase. Researchers examining the bank's artificial intelligence strategies met with Prem Natarajan, Senior Vice President and Chief AI Officer, and Amy Lenander, Senior Vice President and Chief Data Officer.
Natarajan emphasized that the bank focuses on long-term enterprise capabilities rather than quarterly return on investment, defining software development, fraud reduction, and customer services as core artificial intelligence use cases. While generative artificial intelligence and agent-based systems are utilized in customer service, an intelligent assistant developed with open-weight models for risk auditors reduced compliance errors by 85 percent and saved audit time.
On the data side, Lenander stated that they use an ecosystem combining structured and unstructured data. Furthermore, Databolt, developed within the bank to tokenize sensitive data, is being offered to the external market via Capital One Software.
