Producers in Manisa's Demirci district have started their chestnut harvest shifts across 20 rural neighborhoods. This season, approximately 1,100 tons of products are targeted to be obtained from 50,800 trees located across an area of 4,300 decares.

During the harvest process, which is concentrated in neighborhoods such as Çanakçı, Rahmanlar, Mahmutlar, Yarbasan, Söğütçük, and Kargınışıklar, producers gather the chestnuts by knocking them down from the trees with poles. The chestnuts, which women separate from their burs using gloves, are processed using traditional methods.

The harvested products are placed into pits together with bracken ferns brought from the mountains and left to rest for 2 to 3 months. This method ensures that the chestnuts separate from their shells more easily. Çanakçı Neighborhood Headman Şerif Dönmez stated that production is carried out entirely through natural methods and that no agricultural chemicals are used.
