General State of the Market

According to IDC data, China's smartphone shipments in the third quarter decreased by 15.4 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, dropping to 57.9 million units.

This decline occurred during a period when consumer spending remained weak in China.

Position of Huawei and Apple

Huawei led the market by achieving a 21 percent market share with 12.2 million units shipped.

Apple ranked second with a 17.8 percent share, while the company's shipments in China declined by 4.3 percent.

Status of Other Manufacturers

Shipments of Chinese rivals Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi fell by 17.6 percent, 24.9 percent, and 20.4 percent, respectively.

Honor was the only leading brand to increase its shipments compared to the previous quarter.

Cost Increases and Prices

Phone manufacturers have been negatively affected over the past few quarters by rising costs of memory chips and other components.

IDC Senior Analyst Arthur Guo stated that vendors have passed the rising costs on to consumers, pushing retail prices higher.
