Claims Regarding the Health Status of North Korean Leader Kim Jong-un

A report in the British newspaper The Sun claimed that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un suffered a cerebral hemorrhage, entered a coma, and was receiving treatment in China. Meanwhile, claims regarding his death spread on social media, but these allegations were not confirmed by independent sources.

According to the report in The Sun newspaper regarding the health status of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, it was claimed that he suffered a serious cerebral hemorrhage and was taken to the Peking Union Medical College Hospital in Beijing, China, due to the inadequacy of facilities in Pyongyang. In posts on X by Wanjun Xie, Chairman of the China Democracy Party, it was claimed that Kim died despite treatment, a governance crisis was taking place in the country, and China had dispatched troops. However, neither the news of his death nor the claims regarding the deployment of Chinese troops were verified by independent sources.

On the other hand, while discussions arose that his sister Kim Yo-jong could take over the leadership in the event of Kim Jong-un's death, the leader was last seen on October 11 alongside his wife and daughter at the opening of the National Defense Development Exhibition in Pyongyang. Recalling that similar rumors emerged in 2020, North Korean expert Benedict Rogers stated that there are no signs yet to confirm the death rumors.
