Decision on Diesel Fuel Price Reduction in France Through Strategic Reserve Move
Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu announced that diesel prices at gas stations will drop starting November 1, and this reduction will provide savings of 10 euros per tank.
French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu announced that with the activation of strategic reserves, there will be a significant drop in diesel fuel prices at gas stations as of November 1.
Details of the Price Reduction
In a statement made by Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu via social media, it was reported that diesel fuel prices at all gas stations across France will drop by up to 18 cents starting November 1. It was stated that this price drop will correspond to an average reduction of 10 euros per tank.
Release of Reserves
It was stated that the price drop in question will take place thanks to the government's decision last week to release 10 million barrels of diesel fuel from strategic reserves. The French government implemented this move to alleviate rising energy costs and address global supply tightness.
Role of Sectors and Companies
It was noted that the reduction announced by the government will also be reflected in fuel sold to construction and transport sector workers, as well as farmers. Meanwhile, French oil company TotalEnergies also announced that following the government's decision, diesel prices at its approximately 3,300 stations nationwide will drop by 10 cents per liter starting November 1.
Background of the Crisis
Blockages in the Strait of Hormuz due to tensions in the Middle East had caused fuel prices in France to soar. The government chose to use its strategic reserves against this global supply problem.
