Donald Trump Signs Executive Order Suspending Energy Sanctions on Russia
US President Donald Trump has halted energy sanctions under a diesel supply agreement with Russia aimed at lowering global fuel prices.
US President Donald Trump signed an executive order suspending energy sanctions and tariffs targeting the Russian government and state companies just two days before they were set to take effect.
US President Donald Trump took a step to block energy sanctions and the imposition of tariffs on countries importing energy from Russia just two days before the legislation was scheduled to come into effect. According to a statement on the White House website, Trump signed an executive order suspending the sanctions targeting Russia, citing "national interests" as the reason.
Donald Trump had signed the bill on September 18, which stipulated sanctions on the Russian government and state companies, as well as tariffs on countries importing energy from Russia. On October 9, Trump announced that they had reached an agreement with Russia for the supply of hundreds of thousands of tons of diesel in order to lower global fuel prices, and in return, they were temporarily suspending the sanctions.
Trump's announcement came just weeks after the US Congress passed a law instructing the President to levy significant customs duties on the largest importers of Russian oil or natural gas.
