Egypt's top security body agrees to help Saudi Arabia defend itself against Houthi attacks

Egypt's top security body, the National Defense Council, announced that it has agreed to provide all possible support to help Saudi Arabia defend its security following the escalation of clashes with the Iran-backed Houthis.

The National Defense Council convened in Egypt under the chairmanship of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and decided to provide all possible forms of support for Saudi Arabia to defend its security. While details of the decision were not shared, it was noted that Sisi requested authorization from parliament to deploy troops and military equipment abroad. This step, which came following the visit of the Saudi Crown Prince to Egypt, increased diplomatic and military mobility in the region.

While Houthi attacks continue along the Yemen and Saudi Arabia border, numerous civilians, including children and women, lost their lives in an airstrike carried out in the Saada governorate in northern Yemen. Meanwhile, it was announced that a military helicopter crashed due to a technical malfunction in the city of Najran in southern Saudi Arabia, resulting in the deaths of two crew members. On the other hand, Egypt's Al-Azhar institution called for the establishment of an emergency mediation committee to end the conflicts in the Arab region.
