At a workshop held in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, necessary amendments to the Food Safety Law in light of increasing e-commerce and technological developments were addressed. Experts drew attention to the importance of risk-based management systems and digital transformation.

Renewal of the Food Safety Law

A workshop was held in Hanoi under the leadership of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations and the Vietnam Association for Science and Technology of Food Safety. During the meeting, it was stated that the 2010 Food Safety Law needs to be amended according to current needs.

It was noted that during the process of updating the current law, it is essential to take into account the rapid development of e-commerce and technological innovations in processing, preservation, and distribution fields.

Risk Management and Remote Control

It was stated that risks must be prevented in advance in order to establish a modern food safety management system. The importance of remote control of potential threats along the supply chain was shared with the participants.

Experts argued that legal regulations should both fully meet safety requirements and be compatible with international standards and practices.

Digital Transformation and Data Sharing

Throughout the workshop, it was emphasized that traceability should be increased, digital transformation in processes should be ensured, and data sharing among governing institutions should be activated.

Additionally, it was stated that encouraging the self-inspection responsibility of businesses will play a critical role in terms of the sustainability of safe food supply.
