Epic launches Connectors to link its AI tools with third-party apps

Epic has announced a new feature called Connectors, which enables artificial intelligence agents and assistants to interact with third-party applications.

Epic has introduced the Connectors system, which enables AI agents to retrieve information from third-party applications and perform tasks. Announced Wednesday morning ahead of the Open@Epic conference, the new capability allows developers to connect their applications to the company's AI tools.

This system will work with tools such as Emmie, the patient-facing assistant; Art, the clinician assistant; Penny, used for revenue cycle and operations; as well as custom AIs created in Agent Factory.

Examples given included an emergency department being able to prepare in advance for an ambulance arrival time based on an ambulance app, or a hospitalized patient being able to order food directly through Emmie from a diet management app. The company stated that developer-created Connectors tools are scheduled to be featured in the Epic Showroom starting in March 2027, with the testing process planned to begin with health system partners by the end of the year.
