Galatasaray applies to UEFA for security ahead of Lille match
Due to the violence in France, Galatasaray is preparing to apply to UEFA to request additional security measures for its team delegation and supporters.
Galatasaray has decided to apply to UEFA ahead of its UEFA Champions League match against Lille in France, due to the ongoing violent incidents and looting in the country. The yellow-red club will request additional measures to be taken for the safety of the delegation and supporters.
Demonstrations that started in France in reaction to the high cost of living and high fuel prices have led to curfews in four cities. In the incidents encompassing the city of Lille, approximately one thousand personnel were injured, at least 1,500 shops were looted, and nearly 2,400 people were detained. Following these developments, while the postponement of matches came to the agenda, French Minister of Interior Laurent Nunez announced that the matches would be played.
Galatasaray is not demanding that the venue of the match be changed, but only wants security measures to be increased. Being in communication with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the French Embassy, the club expects the match to be played as scheduled on Wednesday, October 21 at 19:45 TSI.
