Arkadaşı tarama testi yaptırırken, sağlık çalışanları, Erkan'a daha önce rahim ağzı kanseri taraması yaptırıp yaptırmadığını sordu. Daha önce tarama yaptırmadığını belirten Erkan, başlangıçta test olmak istemedi. Sağlık çalışanlarının testin kısa sürede tamamlanabileceğini ve taramanın ihmal edilmemesi gerektiğini belirtmesi üzerine Erkan, test yaptırmayı kabul etti. Test sonucu 'pozitif' çıkınca, ileri tetkikler için kadın doğum polikliniğine yönlendirilen Tijen Erkan'a, incelemelerin ardından 1'inci evre rahim ağzı kanseri tanısı konuldu. Hastalığın erken evrede tespit edilmesiyle tedavi süreci başlatıldı. Mayıs ayında ameliyat edilen Erkan, cerrahi tedavinin ardından kemoterapi ve radyoterapiye ihtiyaç duymadan sağlığına kavuştu.
