HKEX Announces Artificial Intelligence and Semiconductor Indices
The Hong Kong Stock Exchange has launched artificial intelligence and semiconductor indices to track trends in the technology sector.
Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) announced the establishment of the Artificial Intelligence Index and the Semiconductor Index on October 26, 2026. While these new indices provide investors with new benchmarks in technology themes, a licensing agreement was concluded for the issuance of exchange-traded funds (ETFs) based on the artificial intelligence index in mainland China.
HKEX Group Chief Information Officer Richard Leung stated that artificial intelligence and semiconductors are transforming global industries and that the new indices provide investors with more opportunities to capture these trends. Yang Xiaosong, General Manager of China Southern Asset Management, noted that thanks to the licensing agreement, opportunities in Hong Kong's artificial intelligence value chain will be transformed into a suitable tool for mainland investors and cross-market connectivity will be supported.
The HKEX Artificial Intelligence Index measures the performance of 40 companies traded on the Hong Kong stock exchange that have a high exposure to the artificial intelligence value chain, using a fundamental weighting approach. The HKEX Semiconductor Index tracks the 30 largest semiconductor-related companies listed in Hong Kong across various segments of the semiconductor industry.
