Ukraine and Russia have agreed on a local ceasefire in the city of Oleshky, located in the food-insecure Kherson region, to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid and the evacuation of civilians. The process, mediated by U.S. officials, is scheduled to begin on Tuesday.

In the city of Oleshky, which is facing a severe food crisis in the Kherson region, a local ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia has been confirmed to carry out humanitarian aid and civilian evacuations. The process, which includes mediation efforts by U.S. First Lady Melania Trump, aims to deliver food and medical supplies to civilians.

Russian General Valery Gerasimov confirmed that the ceasefire would begin on Tuesday, October 27, whereas an earlier date of October 29 had been indicated. Dmytro Lubinets, the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, also confirmed the ceasefire and the phased nature of the humanitarian operation.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that delegations from Ukraine, Russia, and the U.S. will hold trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi in the first half of November to address ending the conflict. These diplomatic efforts follow recent contacts by U.S. special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Zelenskyy emphasizes that any long-term peace agreement must include strong international security guarantees and sustainable funding for the Ukrainian armed forces.
