The International Monetary Fund (IMF) released its October 2026 Global Financial Stability Report, sharing current risks and potential dangers facing the global financial system with the public.

State of Global Financial Markets

It was stated that global financial markets maintain their resilience supported by strong economic growth and corporate profitability, but certain fundamental risks are gradually increasing.

Three main risks stand out: an artificial intelligence-driven market correction, a sharp rise in government bond yields, and increasing cyberattacks.

Artificial Intelligence and Borrowing Risks

It was noted that while artificial intelligence investments support economic activity, falling short of expectations could lead to asset price corrections.

It was reported that borrowings and leverage usage of hyperscale companies have increased, with significant investments being made in exchange for 1.4 trillion dollars in revenue commitments.

Bond Yields and Inflation

Addressing the risk of rising government bond yields, attention was drawn to increasing energy prices, inflationary pressures, and fiscal concerns.

Emphasizing that bond yields could return to pre-crisis levels, it was noted that policymakers must be prepared for potential shocks.

Cybersecurity and Banking

It was emphasized that with the digitalization of the financial sector, cyberattacks have become a growing source of systemic risks.

It was stated that under an adverse stress scenario, capital adequacy ratios of banks representing 22 percent of global banking assets could decline.
