Libya Summons US Envoy to Protest at Trump Remarks

The Libyan Foreign Ministry summoned the US chargé d'affaires after US President Donald Trump described Libya as a 'nest of terror' during a rally in Perry, Georgia. The ministry stated that it rejects any expressions that undermine the dignity of the people and lower the country's reputation.

During his speech at the rally, Trump claimed that US Senator Jon Ossoff supported a legislative bill aimed at bringing immigrants from countries such as Libya, Yemen, Haiti, and Somalia, and defined these countries as 'nests of terror.' Rival administrations in eastern and western Libya condemned Trump's remarks, stating that they reject efforts to draw the country into electoral controversies.

Following the backlash, Trump stated in a post on the Truth Social platform that they respect the Libyan people and appreciate their sacrifices in the fight against ISIS. However, Trump emphasized that Libya cannot continue to be a corridor for illegal migration and noted that this situation must come to an end.
