Expressing that he is at a crossroads in his policy toward Iran, US President Donald Trump announced that he must make a decision between reaching an agreement with Tehran or restarting military operations. In an interview with Fox News, Trump emphasized that Iran's nuclear facilities are under constant surveillance and stated that control of the Strait of Hormuz belongs to the US.

At a time when threats by Iran and the Houthis against Americans in the region are increasing, Trump signaled that he could evaluate military options following the midterm elections on November 3. Increasing its military presence in the region, the US deployed a third aircraft carrier group to the Persian Gulf.

The Tehran administration, on the other hand, argues that negotiations with the US are meaningless unless seven conditions are met. Furthermore, Iran rejected the proposal to lift the naval blockade in exchange for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. While US intelligence reports suggest that Tehran has increased its efforts to target American diplomats, the State Department reduced its personnel count at some embassies in the region.
