Ukraine defies Trump and launches one of its biggest drone attacks on Russia this year

Despite US President Donald Trump's demand to halt attacks on Russian energy infrastructure, Ukraine carried out a large-scale drone attack targeting a major oil terminal in St. Petersburg, among other locations.

Ukraine launched one of its largest drone attacks on Russia this year during the weekend night hours. The Russian Defense Ministry announced that 1,015 Ukrainian drones were shot down overnight across various regions of the country. Among the targeted locations was the St. Petersburg Oil Terminal, which has a capacity of 12.5 million tons per year. The Ukrainian company Fire Point reported that a fire broke out at the terminal site following the attack.

The data center of Russian distribution company Ozon and the VKontakte social platform were also among the targeted points in St. Petersburg. Local authorities stated that one person lost their lives, five people were injured, and residential buildings were damaged in the attacks.

The attacks took place during a period of escalating tension between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump. Trump had criticized Ukraine's targeting of Russian oil refineries. In an interview with NBC News, Zelenskyy emphasized that it would be a historic mistake for the US to side with Russia and stated that lifting sanctions on Russian diesel imports would mean supporting Russian aggression. Meanwhile, it was reported that Russian attacks on Ukraine over the past 24 hours left 11 people dead and about 50 injured.
