Male employment grew faster in professions impacted by artificial intelligence
A study by the Pew Research Center revealed that male employment increased at a faster rate compared to women in job sectors with heavy artificial intelligence utilization.
A study conducted by the US-based Pew Research Center, covering the periods of 2017-2019 and 2023-2026, revealed that the impacts of artificial intelligence on the labor market vary by gender. According to the study, male employment exhibited a more pronounced increase compared to female employment in occupations with a high level of exposure to artificial intelligence.
In the study, 480 different occupations were scored based on their levels of exposure to artificial intelligence using data from the US Department of Labor. According to the analysis results, each one-unit increase in the artificial intelligence exposure score was associated with a 6.3 percent rise in male employment, whereas the change in female employment remained at the 0.2 percent level. In occupations most affected by artificial intelligence, male employment increased by approximately 24 percent more than in those least affected.
Evaluation: Researchers emphasized that a direct cause-and-effect relationship cannot be established between the level of exposure to artificial intelligence and employment growth. While it was stated that other economic and social developments during the periods examined may also be decisive in employment trends, it was noted that the long-term effects of artificial intelligence on the labor market are not yet clear.
