Ministry of Health Prepares New System for Prescribed Medication Use with Reports
The Ministry of Health is working on a new model that will prevent chronic patients from having to go to the hospital just to renew their prescriptions.
The Ministry of Health is preparing a new regulation that will eliminate the requirement for chronic patients with valid medication reports to go to healthcare facilities for the purpose of prescription renewal.
Purpose of the New Model
The efforts carried out by the Ministry of Health aim to simplify prescription procedures for individuals who use regular medication due to chronic illnesses. It is intended to reduce visits made to hospitals by citizens with valid medication reports solely for prescription renewal.
Details of the Application
According to the information provided by Minister Kemal Memişoğlu, once the initial prescription is issued by a physician and as long as the report remains valid, there will be no need to obtain a new prescription for the same medication. As long as there is no change in treatment, patients will be able to obtain their medications directly from the pharmacy.
Acquisition Process from Pharmacies
The system does not envision dispensing all of the medications on the report at once. Medications will be obtainable from pharmacies in certain periods in accordance with usage amounts. A patient whose medication has run out will be able to apply to the pharmacy instead of going to the doctor for a new prescription.
Scope and Expectations
It has not yet been clarified which diseases the application will cover. Taner Ercanlı, Secretary General of the Turkish Pharmacists' Association, states that the system could be applied to common diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma, and COPD. The new model is planned to be put into service before the end of the year 2026.
