The Ministry of Trade has called on Turkish businesses selling products over the internet to European Union countries to update their product information according to the requirements of the new customs system. Within the scope of the practice becoming mandatory as of November 1, the declaration of new product identification codes at customs will be required.

New era in the customs system

The Ministry of Trade made an important call to Turkish businesses carrying out online product sales to European Union countries. In the statement, it was emphasized that product information must be updated in accordance with the requirements of the new customs system. With this new practice, it is aimed to facilitate the control of product information in customs processes. Making shipment tracking more effective is also among the targeted elements.

Transition from voluntary process to obligation

In the announcement by the Western Mediterranean Exporters Association, it was stated that the practice in question has been used voluntarily since July 1. With November, it has become clear that the system will transition to the mandatory phase. Turkish companies selling to the EU are continuing their preparations within the framework of this new customs obligation.

Internet sales and code transfer

Within the scope of the new regulation, the record of the product ordered over the internet on the sales platform will be transferred to customs. In addition, the identification information used by the manufacturer will be transmitted to the customs units in the same manner. Thus, the tracking of all shipments will be carried out in a more transparent manner.

M-PID and NS-PID declaration obligation

M-PID stands out as the code used by the seller to identify the product on their website or digital marketplace. NS-PID, on the other hand, means the model, part, or product number given to the product by the manufacturer or supplier. In distance sales to the EU, the inclusion of this information in customs data will be mandatory.

Barcode requirement and S-PID details

The current regulation does not introduce a new barcode requirement for products that do not have barcodes. The regulation also includes S-PID, which complies with international standards as a third product identifier. However, this situation strictly does not mandate that all products obtain a new barcode from scratch.

Warning and preparation for companies

The Ministry of Trade requested that companies engaged in e-exports take action before the mandatory application begins. It is of great importance for businesses to urgently review their digital sales and declaration processes. Thus, it is aimed to prevent potential disruptions at customs.
