New regulation for pensions: Welfare share option for those over 65
Ahead of the new year, preparations for regulations covering over 18 million retirees are evaluating options such as providing a higher welfare share to retirees aged 65 and older and increasing the minimum pension.
As preparations for pension increases continue, special regulations for elderly retirees have come to the agenda in studies conducted by the AK Party. While it is planned to provide a higher welfare share to retirees aged 65 and older, the possibility of lowering this age limit to 60 is also among the options being evaluated.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated after the cabinet meeting that the necessary financial resources have been created in the 2027 budget to improve the economic conditions of retirees and that the legal regulation is aimed to be completed by the end of the year. Within the scope of the studies, the focus is on providing a welfare share in addition to the inflation difference and increasing the minimum pension.
The economic status of retirees will also be a determining factor in the preparation of the regulation. In this context, it is envisaged that criteria such as whether retirees own a home, their employment status, and additional income will be taken into consideration. Which retiree groups the welfare share will cover and whether the age criterion will be applied will become clear after the studies, which will continue until the end of the year.
