NDTV World Summit 2026 - Not Another News Platform: What Nikhil Kamath Wants To Build Next

Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath announced at the NDTV World Summit 2026 held in New Delhi that he aims to step into the media sector by building a new homegrown social media platform.

Speaking with NDTV Editor-in-Chief Rahul Kanwal at the NDTV World Summit 2026 in New Delhi, Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath stated that he is not interested in traditional news publishing, but rather wants to build a new version of social media.

Drawing reference from China's model of having its own social media and e-commerce platforms, Kamath stated that India could also develop its own independent digital ecosystem. Expressing his desire to build a platform that could expand not only in India but also globally, Kamath noted that his team is experimenting with different app concepts.

During the discussion, industry challenges were also touched upon, and the past initiative of the homegrown app "Koo", which ceased operations in July 2024, was recalled.
