New system preparation for patients with medical reports to obtain medicines directly without visiting a doctor
The Ministry of Health is planning a new model allowing patients with a valid medical report and unchanged treatment to obtain their medicines directly from the pharmacy without having to visit a doctor every time.
The Ministry of Health is preparing a new system to simplify prescription procedures for patients with a valid drug report and who receive regular treatment. The planned practice aims to prevent patients whose treatment remains unchanged from having to apply to a health institution every time to obtain the same medicine again during the report's validity period.
Operating Principles of the New Model
According to the model shared by Minister of Health Kemal Memişoğlu, the physician will issue the initial prescription at the beginning of the treatment. As long as the report remains valid and no changes are made to the medicine used, the patient will not need to go to the doctor to get a new prescription.
Process of Procuring Medicines from Pharmacies
Not all medicines will be dispensed at once. The prepared model does not involve giving all medicines included in the report to the patient in a single dispensation. Work is underway on a system where medicines can be obtained from pharmacies in periods determined according to the usage amount.
Scope and Disease Groups
Studies are ongoing regarding which diseases and drug groups the application will cover. A finalized list of diseases or drugs has not yet been announced by the Ministry.
Pharmacy Readiness Status
Turkish Pharmacists' Association General Secretary Taner Ercanlı shared the view that certain disease groups such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma, and COPD could be included in the system initially. The Turkish Pharmacists' Association reported that over 31,000 pharmacies across Turkey are in a position to contribute to this process.
Implementation Schedule
The new application is planned to be put into effect before the end of 2026. Until the regulation comes into force, patients will continue to receive their medicines according to current prescription rules.
