South Korea has experienced a fresh wave of cyberattacks targeting brokerage firms Daishin Securities and Mirae Asset Global Investments, as well as cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb. Daishin Securities announced that personal information of 38,490 customers was leaked in the attack.

Institutions in South Korea's financial sector, including brokerages Daishin Securities and Mirae Asset Global Investments and cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb, have become targets of new cyberattacks. These latest incidents have raised concerns regarding vulnerabilities beyond the country's banking systems.

According to local media reports, Daishin Securities reported that personal information of 38,490 customers, including names, email addresses, and mobile phone numbers, was exposed in the attack. The company stated that it has notified affected customers, is cooperating with authorities in the investigation, and will compensate for losses in accordance with the law. Meanwhile, Mirae and Bithumb reported separate cybersecurity incidents on Wednesday, with neither institution yet confirming that customer data was compromised.

South Korea's Financial Services Commission (FSC) and authorities have called for stronger cybersecurity measures following the increasing attacks targeting financial firms and government agencies. The country also plans to conduct security checks on dozens of IT systems in the private sector.
