OpenAI announced that it has reached a solution regarding the Navier-Stokes equations, one of the greatest problems in the mathematical world. The company stated that artificial intelligence agents solved this complex problem within 88 hours. However, this announcement brought along concerns that independent mathematicians' research may have leaked through OpenAI's coding tool Codex.

Tristan Buckmaster from New York University and Levent Alpöge, an employee at Anthropic, had formed an independent team working on the same problem. The researchers were storing their work on OpenAI's Codex tool. Buckmaster expressed concerns over whether their work had influenced OpenAI's own solution process. OpenAI, on the other hand, defended that no employee or artificial intelligence model had accessed other teams' data prior to publication.

Although the company initially stated that it could not completely rule out the possibility that anonymous data might have been used in model improvements, it stated in a later declaration that it was not possible for Buckmaster's inputs on Codex to have affected the system. The award committee managing the problem reported that the solution has "apparently been solved" but the review process is ongoing.
