Protest Against Transfer Preparations of Ankara Oncology Hospital
The plan to transfer the Ankara Oncology Hospital, affiliated with the Ministry of Health, to Yıldırım Beyazıt University was protested in front of the hospital.
Preparations to remove the oncology status of Dr. Abdurrahman Yurtaslan Ankara Oncology Training and Research Hospital, Turkey's first oncology hospital, and transfer it to Yıldırım Beyazıt University were protested under the leadership of the Ankara Medical Chamber and the Open My Hospital Platform.
Having been established in 1952 and holding the distinction of being the only single-specialty training and research hospital within the Ministry of Health, the center operates with a capacity of 600 beds and approximately 2,700 healthcare workers. In the hospital where around 10,000 new cancer patients are evaluated annually and over one million outpatient services are provided, more than 30,000 chemotherapy applications and over 3,000 surgical procedures are performed.
Dr. Sabri Dokuzoğuz, President of the Ankara Medical Chamber, stated that preparations to terminate the legal entity of the hospital and transfer its building endanger the institution's future, and that information regarding the signing of a protocol between the ministry and the university must be clarified. Dr. Bayazıt İlhan, spokesperson for the Open My Hospital Platform, also called for abandoning the transfer decision.
