Purdue University Northwest (PNW) has provided all first-year students enrolled in the 2026-27 academic year with access to the Google Gemini platform. With this initiative, the university aims for students to learn the capabilities, limitations, and ethical use principles of artificial intelligence tools.

Implemented within the scope of a strategic partnership established between Google Public Sector and Purdue University in early 2026, the project aims to develop students' skills in managing complex workflows and integrating artificial intelligence technologies into their academic processes. PNW Chancellor Kenneth C. Holford stated that artificial intelligence has become an inseparable part of modern professions, noting that preparing students for the future workforce is a priority.

This practice builds upon a similar program launched at the Purdue West Lafayette campus in the fall 2026 semester. The initiative serves as a pilot study for the artificial intelligence literacy and competency requirements that the university plans to make a graduation requirement in the future.
