Russian President Putin has proposed holding a trilateral summit next month with Donald Trump and Xi Jinping to discuss the Ukraine war.
Amid signs of warming relations between Washington and Kremlin, Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed holding a trilateral meeting next month with US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in an effort to seek a resolution favorable to Moscow.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has reportedly proposed a trilateral meeting next month with US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping to discuss the war in Ukraine. It is stated that the said trilateral summit could take place on the margins of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit scheduled to be held in Shenzhen, China, on November 18-19.
However, a senior US official stated that US President Trump has not yet agreed to this meeting. On the other hand, the proposed format has also brought along concerns that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European leaders would be left out of discussions regarding the conflict.
Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that talks regarding a potential meeting are underway, noting that a clear agreement on the agenda has not been reached or whether the meeting will definitely take place is not yet certain. According to a former Russian intelligence officer who spoke to the WSJ, Putin brought up this proposal during his phone call with Trump on October 9.
