European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen's criticisms of the maritime jurisdiction areas agreement signed between Turkey and Libya drew reactions from the AK Party, CHP, and New Party in Turkey, as well as the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality.

Following European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen's statement that they view the Turkey-Libya memorandum of understanding approved by the Libyan Parliament with regret on the grounds that it violates the sovereign rights of third states and that the agreement is invalid, successive statements came from Turkish politics. AK Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik emphasized that the approval of the Libyan House of Representatives registered the legal justification, noting that imposing approaches ignoring realities on the ground are invalid. New Party Chairman Özgür Özel argued that the EU should observe equity instead of fueling tension, while Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş stated that the EU acts with the theses of Greece and the Greek Cypriot Administration. CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu stated that the will of two sovereign states cannot be ignored.
