Within the scope of the new regulation on social media use, the age verification application and the rule not to provide services to children under 15 enter into force on November 1, 2026, while a compliance period until March 31, 2027, is granted for existing accounts. Authorities warn users against fake messages from fraudsters trying to exploit this process.

The new regulation regarding the use of social media enters into force on November 1, 2026. Within the framework of the rules, social network providers will not be able to provide services to children under the age of 15, and age verification measures will be implemented during account opening. According to statements by Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş, platforms will be able to perform age checks not only during account opening but also throughout the usage process. In case of doubt, re-verification may be requested and the account may be temporarily suspended. A compliance period is granted until March 31, 2027, for existing accounts; therefore, it is stated that claims that all existing accounts will automatically close on November 1 are not true.

It is envisaged that a digital token obtained via e-Government will be used in the age verification system. On the other hand, the regulation includes additional protection measures for users in the 15-18 age group. While limitations are introduced on design features such as live streaming, taking screenshots, and infinite scrolling for this age group, parental control tools are planned to be offered. Authorities also warn citizens against fake messages and links with phrases like 'verify your age immediately' from fraudsters trying to take advantage of the new era.
