Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş shared the details of the new regulation that will increase the safety of children on digital platforms during a statement made after the 'Mersin Workshop Final Conference' at Mersin University Akdeniz Culture Center. With the application covering all domestic and foreign social network providers, social network services will not be able to be offered to children who have not turned 15.
For users between the ages of 15 and 18, a protected digital environment will be created and account privacy will be ensured. Accounts of this age group will not be open to everyone; features such as live streaming and exposure to personalized ads will be restricted, and users will only be able to receive messages from accounts they follow.
The age verification process will be carried out via e-Government without sharing identity information, only by transmitting the age range. Within the scope of the regulation coming into effect on November 1, the deadline for completing age verification procedures for existing accounts has been set as March 31, 2027. Additionally, parents will be able to supervise their children's accounts, the time they spend on platforms, and their paid transactions.
