Under the new regulation regarding children's use of social media in Turkey, an age limit is being introduced with the application entering into force on November 1, 2026. According to the details announced by Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş, platforms will be given until March 31, 2027, to comply with the rules. While age verification via e-Government is planned for new memberships, this transition period will also be used to verify existing accounts.
For users in the 15-18 age group, features that increase screen time, such as infinite scrolling, rewinding content, screen recording, and live streaming, will be restricted. In messaging, security measures such as receiving messages only from followed accounts and disabling read receipts will be applied. If it is suspected that an account belongs to someone under the age of 15, re-verification via e-Government will be requested.
