French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez reported that police locations and empty areas were shared on social media platforms such as TikTok and Snapchat to facilitate the looting of shops during the protests organized by the yellow vests.

Parliamentarians in France discussed the violence and looting incidents that occurred during the yellow vests' protests on October 17 at the National Assembly and the Senate in Paris. Speaking at the Senate General Assembly, Interior Minister Laurent Nunez announced that the number of law enforcement officers in the field would be increased for the protests on October 24.

Nunez argued that social media had a significant impact on the protests, noting that police locations were communicated within TikTok and Snapchat groups, and areas devoid of police presence were shared to loot shops. Stating that mayors have suggested suspending social media platforms in such situations, Nunez reminded that the Council of State ruled in a 2025 decision that this practice could only take place under extraordinary circumstances.
