In a statement issued by the university on the occasion of World Spine Day, it was stated that remaining inactive for a long time negatively affects spine health, and the importance of moving every 30 to 60 minutes was emphasized.

In the statement issued by the university, incorporating views from Kaya, it was conveyed that prolonged inactivity is among the primary habits that negatively affect spine health. Mentioning that many people today spend a large portion of the day at desks, driving, or dealing with phones, it was noted that what matters is not just how one sits, but how long one stays in the same position. Stating that the body is designed to move, it was expressed that staying in the same position for hours can contribute to muscle fatigue and the emergence of pain over time.

Kaya explained that the spine is not as fragile a structure as thought, and that bending, twisting, or slouching does not mean the spine is damaged on its own. While office workers and students were advised to change their positions frequently throughout the day instead of searching for the perfect sitting position, the necessity of ergonomic arrangements such as keeping the computer screen close to eye level and supporting the feet was noted. Additionally, it was conveyed that the World Health Organization recommends adults engage in at least 150-300 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity per week and participate in muscle-strengthening exercises at least two days a week.
