A strategic partnership has been launched between the two countries following meetings between Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during Carney's visit to Turkey. An agreement was reached on a 3-year action plan aimed at developing economic and commercial relations.
According to a statement from the Office of the Prime Minister of Canada, a 3-year action plan has been established to deepen cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, defense, security, and energy. In this context, it was decided that the first round of negotiations for a comprehensive free trade agreement between the two countries will be held in Ankara between November 30 and December 4.
Mehmet Yılmaz, Chairman of the DEİK Turkey-Canada Business Council, stated that the current trade volume of $3 billion remains below its potential. Yılmaz noted that the leaders have set a target of $5 billion in the near to medium term, followed by a $10 billion trade volume target, emphasizing that Turkey's production capacity offers a significant advantage for Canada.
