Teacher alleged to have insulted Atatürk and the flag arrested in Balıkesir
A teacher in Balıkesir's Edremit district, identified as having insulted the Turkish flag and Atatürk on social media, was suspended, detained, and subsequently arrested.
A teacher working at a school in Balıkesir's Edremit district was detained for making social media posts containing insults against the Turkish flag and Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and was later arrested by the court to which they were referred.
According to a statement by the Balıkesir Governorship, it was determined that a teacher working at a school in the Edremit district insulted the Turkish flag and the founder of the Republic, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, in social media posts. The suspect, against whom an immediate suspension measure was implemented by the Edremit District Governorate, was detained upon the instructions of the Edremit Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Having completed procedures at the police station, the suspect was arrested by the judicial authorities upon referral to the courthouse.
MHP Provincial Deputy Chairman and lawyer Oğuzhan Kaçıcı stated in a press statement to journalists at the Edremit Courthouse that they would closely follow the process and continue legal and professional monitoring.
