During a United Nations General Assembly session discussing the economic embargo imposed by the US on Cuba, a heated argument broke out between US and Cuban officials.
The incident occurred while US Permanent Representative to the UN Mike Waltz took to the podium to call for support against the embargo. During Waltz's speech accusing the Cuban government of corruption, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez and his delegation reacted by banging on the tables.
As the tension escalated, Rodriguez moved toward the podium and shouted "liar" at Waltz. Waltz responded to this outburst with the words, "This is America, back up." Continuing his reaction, the US representative addressed his Cuban counterpart by saying, "You are not going to intimidate me, this is not Havana".
